ICE CLIMBING

Ice climbing  for beginners...

Join us for a winter adventure in Norway!

Ice climbing for beginners and intermediate climbers

This year we are again embarking on some winter fun in the beautiful scenery of Rjukan, Norway. Spaces are limited so please get your forms and deposit to us as soon as possible to secure your space!

You’ll need to make your own arrangements for flights, and we recommend you aim for Ryan Air as they’re pretty cheap (but you'll need to check these for yourself). Further details about flights will be confirmed once the minimum number for the course has been confirmed, so don't book any flights yet!

It’s up to you when you book your flights, but Ryan Air usually vary their prices so that the closer you book to the departure date, the cheaper the flights are - but that's your call. It’s up to you whether you pay to bring a bag (Ryan Air tickets include one piece of hand luggage only) - but you can wear your boots, harness and helmet on the plane so travel light and there’s no need!

What you need to know

Cost of the trip includes, transfers, climbing equipment (except boots) and breakfast, lunch and evening meals, and guiding - all you need to provide is your own stiff climbing boots suitable for crampons (B2 or B3 boots are suitable). If you need to hire them, check out http://www.outdoorhire.co.uk/snow.php or http://www.expeditionkithire.co.uk/expedition-boot-hire.html.
You will need to arrange your own suitable travel insurance to cover flight cancellations and injury etc. whilst abroad, and you’ll need a valid passport to travel!

Please note when booking your flights - you’ll need to be going to Oslo Torp airport and arriving at similar times to the main party for the transfer.

Activities and itinerary

What we'll be doing...

Over the last few years the window for good ice has been getting smaller and smaller, so we will aim to ice climb on at least one day and then adapt our activities to conditions for the other days - there are opportunities to climb again but higher in to the mountains, or do some snowshoeing, and/or a picturesque bridge to abseil from (its 60m from the deck to the valley floor so not to be taken lightly!)

Dates: 11th - 14th February 2024 - Flights will need to depart Sunday and return Wednesday. You are responsible for getting yourself to and from the airport.

Accommodation is self catering, in Rjukan, and will be hostel style in one large dormitory. There will be shared facilities and potentially a sauna. Cost includes linen, and food as we'll all cook together - so be prepared to join in cooking and help out. There is also a large drying room at the hostel - for more info check it out online - Old School Hostel, Rjukan.

Cost of the course is £355 and you need to pay a deposit of £150 by 10th December to secure your place! For any more info please contact us here. You can pay by direct bank transfer details which will be supplied when you send through your booking form.

All deposits and fees are non-returnable under any circumstances, be that you being unwell, injured, or conditions not being suitable to climb or any other unforeseen circumstances. If you want full terms and conditions please let us know and we can supply them.
